Saturday Barbacoa & Texcotzingo

Start your day with a delightful barbacoa brunch at El Pica 1 in the village of La Purificación, a renowned establishment featured in the Barbacoa episode of Netflix's Taco Chronicles. Barbacoa is lamb slow cooked in a traditional underground oven. You are guided by Alan who grew up in La Purificación.  If you would like to see teh barbacoa process but prefer vegetarian food, interesting local options are available.


Our journey continues to the awe-inspiring archaeological wonder of Texcotzingo (Baños de Netzahualcóyotl) Controversial theories about the site featured in a segment of Netflix's "Ancient Apocalypse". Uncover the stories these historic ruins tell and immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of ancient Mexico.


This meticulously curated day offers more than just a tour; it's an authentic immersion into the soul of Mexico, where culinary delights, ancient history, and personal connections converge to create an unforgettable experience.


Itinerary:

 

8:00 AM - 9:15 AM: Travel from Mexico City to la Purificación Tepetitla

  • We drive across the almost-dry Texcoco lake bed and into the first ring of hills surrounding Mexico City

9:15 AM - 11:15 AM: Extended Barbacoa Experience at El Pica 1

  • Dive deep into the traditional barbacoa, understanding its preparation, significance, and savoring its rich flavors for a traditional brunch. El Pica 1 was featured in Netflix's Taco Chronicles.

11:15 AM - 11:45 AM: Drive through villages to the hill above Texcotzingo

11:45 AM - 3:00 PM: Discovery at Texcotzingo on foot

  • Arrive at the archaeological site of Texcotzingo (Baños de Netzahualcóyotl).
  • With ample time, explore the historical site, walking and climbing, understanding the stories they tell and the ancient civilization they represent.

3:00 PM - 3:30 PM: Return to vehicle and rest with refreshments as we overlook the site and Mexico City

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Return Journey to Mexico City
